How to Live a Detox Lifestyle
By Jonathan Moore
In "Toxic Liver - Attacking the Root Cause of Allergies and Illness" I discussed the importance of a liver detox as well as the rejuvenating effect that it can have on your entire body. One of the best reasons to go through with a liver detox is that it can literally boost your immune system to the point where it can overcome lifelong allergies. This was true in my case. Yet that is only one of many great reasons.
There are a lot of practical elements that you can combine to detoxify your liver. But in this article I’m going to discuss how to live a detox lifestyle. A liver detox is often referred to as a day-long, week-long, or even month-long process. It ranges from a few simple steps to a radical program designed to help your body overcome disease. A lot of people talk about completing a liver detox but not about living a lifestyle that keeps you at a toxin-free maintenance level.
These are practical guidelines that can help you remain healthy and prevent your liver from accumulating all of the bad stuff that you worked so hard to get rid of!
Food to Avoid
- Sugar
- Alcohol
- Dairy
- Caffeine
Top Detox Foods
Eating a diet rich in raw foods, whole grains, nuts & seeds will go a long way in helping your body to rid itself of toxins. (See: Top Detox Foods to Cleanse Your Body)
- Water
- Raw Foods/sprouts/greens
- Fruits/Veggies (organic when possible)
- Whole Grains
- Legumes/Seeds
Salt Scrub
Contact a spa or massage therapist and ask them what kind of salt you need to purchase to just give yourself a simple daily salt scrub in the shower or foot bath. All you needs is a brush and salt, and you’re ready to go. Performing a salt scrub is a valuable way to keep your body free of toxins. Salt scrubs will open your pores, increase circulations, stimulate lymphatic function, and draw out toxins. It leaves your skin feeling smooth, and it’s a great way to detox.
Buy a Juicer
Think of it this way: juicing is like giving your internal organs a holiday. Food by itself (to say nothing of American food) taxes the body quite a bit due to the digestion process. It takes a lot of energy to break down everything we eat! Juicing takes care of that. As fresh fruit and vegetable juice enters the body, the intestines can simply absorb all of the minerals and nutrients within a matter of minutes. Check out our article on juicing: The Power of Juicing for more info!
Breathe!
Oxygen is a great detoxifier. Practice deep, diaphragmatic breathing, and you will be on your way to vital health. There are plenty of people who teach this, and it’s a great thing to make a daily practice if you want to remain free of toxins.
